Sex workers in Zanzibar

I photographed this series for my master's thesis in Sociology. The thesis combines gender issues, disadvantaged groups, and social taboos at the intersection of Sociology and photography.

This research was my first encounter with visual Sociology, and it laid the groundwork for my doctoral PhD thesis.

I worked with male- and female sex workers in Zanzibar. They welcomed me into their lives and showed me a different part of the island.
